Officer’s sword, Second Republic. - Lot 52
Officer’s sword, Second Republic. Chiseled and silver-plated metal mount with ebony. Pommel featuring a central decoration of a classical deity and lion’s paws, a flat, coiled crossguard, and a slightly curved quillon. Shield-shaped hilt with a central decoration of a lictor’s fasces encircled by a wreath of foliage. Fluted ebony guard plates. Straight blade with a triangular cross-section, etched one-third of the way up. Leather scabbard with two silver-plated trims. France, Third Republic period.
