MAETERLINCK (Maurice). Serres chaudes. Paris, Léon Vanier [Ghent, Louis van Melle], 1889. In-8, frontispiece and end-papers by Georges Minne, 102 pages, wine-colored half-maroquin with corners intact. First edition of Maeterlinck’s first published book, illustrated with a heliogravure frontispiece and six woodcuts by George Minne, in its original condition, untrimmed and in a parchment-bound cover: the cover features, on the front, the title in red and one of Minne’s woodcuts reproduced as an illustration. One of 155 copies on Van Gelder paper—this one, No. 9—with a dedication from the author to the lawyer Edmond Picard: “To the most pure and unwavering master. As a token of deep admiration”; and from Edmond Picard to Nicole Picard: “To my little girl, this copy of a new edition of *Les Serres Chaudes*, which I alone admired and defended when it first appeared.”
