Set of two pillboxes, one square, made of silver (800 parts per thousand) with cloisonné enamel decoration; the hinged lid is painted with a view of the Parco del Valentino and the medieval Borgo of Turin, the interior in vermeil; the second is a round box in gilded and chiseled bronze, with a hinged lid decorated with a romantic scene in enamel painted on copper, set within a floral frieze inlaid with pearls, accompanied by a handwritten note on paper “I guarantee that this box with an enamel miniature was given as a token of friendship by Her Imperial Highness the Empress of Russia, Maria Feodorovna, to her French reader / Tours, August 16, 91.”
