Unidentified correspondence, in connection with the publication of a serial in the Petit Moniteur.
"My dear friend, Despite my desire to fulfill the commitment I authorized you to make to the readers of the Petit Moniteur, it is impossible for me to deliver the promised novel on the agreed date. I'd like to ask you for a few months' deferment. You know the two serial subjects I'll have to decide between; you told me they were both equally suitable, so I'll have to make do with the inkwell and the circumstances.
