LOMONOSOV - Imperial Porcelain Manufactory of Saint Petersbu - Lot 345
LOMONOSOV - Imperial Porcelain Manufactory of Saint Petersburg Porcelain tea set with a grand feu decoration featuring a cobalt blue lattice pattern and gold accents. It includes: - 6 cups and saucers - 1 teapot - 1 milk jug - 1 sugar bowl - 1 bowl on a pedestal Marked on the bottom and "MADE IN RUSSIA" There are two stories explaining the origin of this design. According to the official version, the motif is based on that of Empress Elizabeth I’s service, from the time when the porcelain manufactory was founded. The other version suggests that the design evokes the windows taped in a cross pattern during the Siege of Leningrad. The artist, Anna Iatskevitch, survived this blockade, during which she lost her mother and sister; this motif was therefore a way of paying tribute to them. This famous “cobalt lattice” ultimately earned the artist a gold medal at the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair.
