Pierre-Jacques MEURICE (Acquitted in 1806) Silver (950) candy dish with a circular base, partially engraved in the amati style with a wreath of flowers and encircled by a frieze of small waves, resting on four claw feet. The body is carved with figures of vestal virgins and flanked by two lion-head handles. The lid is engraved with a wreath of flowers and topped with a bouquet. Crystal interior. Paris, Empire Period Hallmark: Head of a Greek woman, First Rooster, 1st grade, guaranteed for Paris, departmental registration mark (1809–1819), Silversmith: PM—ear of wheat in a crescent Weight: 396 gr Distortions on the lid, minor imperfections The silversmith is the father-in-law of François-Désiré Froment-Meurice, having married Françoise Giroux—the widow of Jean François Froment—in 1804.
