MERCIER FRÈRES (1828–1985) – PARIS
A dining room set in molded and carved walnut with an apple motif, consisting of a two-part sideboard; the upper section opens at the front with two glass-paned doors, and the lower section with two solid doors surmounted by two drawers in a belt-like arrangement, resting on a corner base with curved legs, a display cabinet with a quadrangular body, opening at the top via a glass door revealing an interior with two glass shelves and a mirrored back, and at the bottom via a solid door, resting on a corner base with small curved feet; and a serving table with a quadrangular body topped bya recessed arched pediment and a rectangular top in red marble veined with white, opening at the front with two solid doors surmounted by two drawers set around the middle, on a corner base with straight legs joined at the bottom by a crossbar shelf forming a compartment. Brass hardware and handles featuring daisy and foliage motifs (scratches, scuffs, stains).
Included is a pencil drawing enhanced with color depicting our sideboard in a red-stained wooden frame.
Manufacturer’s plaque and serial number 34879 on the back of the display cabinet.
