Mathieu BEFORT dit BEFORT JEUNE (1813-1880).
A piece of furniture made of veneered wood.
The cut-out base features rounded feet, set in the continuation of the fluted uprights.
It opens to the right with a leaf centered on a gilded bronze medallion depicting a scene of harvesting putti.
Recessed Languedoc marble top.
Rich ormolu ornamentation in the Rocaille style (some of which have been brought in).
Late 19th century.
Stamped " BEFORT JEUNE ".

Mathieu Béfort lived at 1 and 6 rue Neuve-Saint-Gilles in Paris from 1844 to 1880. Mathieu Béfort's stamps evolved over the course of his career. His early work bore the signature "Béfort Jeune", before he adopted the monogram "BJ", used notably for furniture made in his workshops but not necessarily the master's personal work.
