[PALAIS DE LA LÉGION D'HONNEUR]. LACÉPÈDE, Charles de. L.A.S - Lot 357
[PALAIS DE LA LÉGION D'HONNEUR]. LACÉPÈDE, Charles de. L.A.S. Paris, July 6, 1808. 1 p. folio. Beautiful, lengthy recommendation for the painter Louis Hersent, written by his friend Charles de Lacépède, son of the great French naturalist, zoologist and herpetologist Bernard Germain Etienne de LACÉPÈDE, member of the Société d'Horticulture de Paris. Commenting on the future embellishment of the Palais de la Légion d'Honneur and his father, Count de Lacépède: "I thought there might be some figures to paint and restore". To this end, he strongly recommended "M. Hersent, with whom I studied painting. Mr. Hersent has great talent; he has exhibited several large paintings with great success. He has painted several portraits of my father and is currently working on one of his wife, which is very lifelike and perfectly executed [...]". Charles de Lacépède again refers to his father, "who is very fond of Mr. Hersent and highly appreciative of his talent" and would "appreciate anything that could happen to this young and skilful artist". The painter Lafond was to work with Hersent, etc.
