BAUDELAIRE, Charles (1821-1867). Autograph letter signed add - Lot 326
BAUDELAIRE, Charles (1821-1867). Autograph letter signed addressed to Baron Oscar-Amédée de Watteville du Grabe. Honfleur, January 27, 1859. 1 p. ½ in-12. Autograph envelope preserved with stamp and postmarks.
Baudelaire receives a literary allowance of 300 francs for his translations of Edgar Poe and thanks Watteville: "Dear Sir, I have received a note from the Secretariat of the Ministry relating to the subject of our conversation. What speed! Not knowing to whom I am positively indebted, I thank everyone. As for you, believe me that I'll remember our last conversation, and all the pleasant and good things you told me". He then evokes the rupture caused by the creation of the Revue Européenne, as opposed to Alphonse de Calonne's Revue Contemporaine: "If in the great schism you still see M. de Calonne from time to time, tell him that I am working for him and that I am going to write to him [...]. Ch. Baudelaire".
That same day, Baudelaire wrote at least two other letters containing the same thanks: one to Gustave Rouland, Minister of Public Instruction, the other to Auguste de Chatillon.
