Beautiful poem in the collection "Epigrams" (1894, XVI - 7), inspired by Botticelli's famous painting. "Venus, standing on the most beautiful of shells / Borders naked on the least wild of shores / Hiding from her body with her long hair / Just enough for our wishes to dart / A nymph unfurling a light mantle hastens / To clothe the goddess as empress / And two rushing Winds, beautiful winged ephebes / Mingling thighs and arms / Of whom one is Zephyr and the other Boreas / Blow divine love and sacred hatred [...] ". The name and address of "Louis Roche 29 Gay Lussac" appear in pencil at the foot of the document. On the reverse are some interesting accounts, in Verlaine's handwriting, showing sums of money added or subtracted: England, hospital, removal, food, furniture or laundry, pocket money, etc.
