French school, 18th century, after Jean-Baptiste van Loo (16 - Lot 220
French school, 18th century, after Jean-Baptiste van Loo (1684-1745) Portrait of Stanislas I Leszczynski (1677-1766), former King of Poland, Duke of Lorraine Oil on canvas 134 x 110 cm. Provenance : Marcol family, advisors to the Sovereign Court of Lorraine, conseillers d'Etat, procurators-general of Lorraine and Barrois, etc. Our painting is a copy of the portrait of Stanislas I Leszczinski, King of Poland, painted by Jean-Baptiste van Loo, of which only a few examples are known: one in Warsaw (132 x 105 cm, National Museum, inv. 129367). On the back, an old annotation designates a very honorable family of the Lorraine nobility, the Marcols, as the former owners of this portrait, which recalls the popularity of "good King Stanislas", the last Duke of Lorraine. Descendants and allies of the Marcols include members of the following families: Arminjon, de Beauchef de Servigny, de Beaucorps, Berthelin, de Berwick, Challemel de La Rivière, Chombart de Lauwe, de Guillebon, de Kerguelen, Le Gouvello de la Porte, de Madec, de Pillot-Chantrans, de Pompery, de Poulpiquet de Brescanvel, de Saint Pol, de Saisy de Kerampuil, de Villelume, de Baudinet de Courcelles, du Parc Locmaria, de Roguier, Fourier d'Hincourt, de Chavigny de Montluc, de La Salle, de Bonvoust, de Lafargue, de Moulon, de Roville
