Saint François de Sales in limestone carved in the round. Standing in choir robes, he holds a book in his left hand, his miter in front of his feet. Inscription St François [...] on the base. Late 18th century H. 103 cm (accidents, missing parts and erosion) François de Sales (1567-1622), a prelate from Savoie, was appointed bishop of Geneva in 1602, but was never able to reside there as the city had become a Calvinist stronghold. He ministered from Annecy until his death in Lyon. Canonized in 1665, he was proclaimed Doctor of the Church in 1877.
