Roman school, 17th century Saints Abdon and Sennen burying the bodies of Christian martyrs, after Guillaume Courtois, verso two cherubs, one holding a palm, the other a laurel wreath 260 x 207 mm. Ink and ink wash, verso, ink, white chalk highlights Folds Provenance : Galerie JM Béalu & Fils, Paris, acquired June 16, 1965 Paul and Florence Vercier Collection (L. 3607), n°170 The model for this drawing is a painting by Guillaume Courtois in Saint Mark's Basilica, Rome. Another painting of the same subject is in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium (Inv. 1487). Guillaume Courtois also produced an engraving. The composition appears as a counterpart. There is also a drawing of the same subject by Jean Robert Ango in the Graphic Arts Department of the Musée du Louvre (INV 23562, Recto).
