Noël Nouët (France, 1885-1969) Print, oban tate-e, Shinobazu ike, Lake Shinobazu. Signed Nuetto saku (Made by Nouët) and Noël Nouët and dated Tokyo 1936. Publisher Doi hanmoto. Engraver Ikeda, printer Yokoi. Dim. 39.7 x 26.2 cm This print probably belongs to the Dix vues de Tokyo series produced in 1936 by Nouët and published by Doi. In the 1930s-1940s, Noël Nouët was director of the Maison Franco-Japonaise and an auditor at Tokyo University. In 1935, he began collaborating with the publisher Doi Teiichi. In order to convey the finesse of Nouët's pencil strokes and shading, this print combines two printing techniques: woodcut and zinc plate.
