Grisaille and silver yellow roundel depicting Mordecai surpr - Lot 75
Grisaille and silver yellow roundel depicting Mordecai surprising the two conspirators plotting against the king. Southern Netherlands, first half of the 16th century Diameter: 23.5 cm (broken, glued back together) A Flemish rondel with the same engraving is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, inv. 32.24.41. The composition seems to derive from an engraving depicting Mordecai surprising the two conspirators plotting against the king, now associated with the circle of Pseudo-Aert Ortkens (Flemish, 1510-1540) and formerly attributed to the school of Lucas of Leiden (preserved at the MET, inv. 80.3.441).
