Set once belonging to Captain Charles-Marie-Adrieu Sorrel. Including. -Kepi model 1860 with the rank of Captain. Madder-colored cloth and gold trimmings. Stamped duckbill visor and gilded fawn leather headband. Lined with silk and stamped by Peisson Philippeville. Moth hole on outer band. -Pair of epaulets by Herlouis, in gold passementerie, lined in black woollen cloth. Small gold bangs and buttons to number 3 (probably for the third Zouave). -Photographic portrait with medals, reported for the Legion of Honor and enhanced for that of Mexico. Passepartout with Legion of Honor ribbon. Service record on back (some date errors). Cut-out brass collar with silver eagle. Complete with wool cloth and passementerie buttons. -An impacted morocco wallet. Contains -A handwritten leaflet "This wallet, found somewhere after the battle of froeschwiller by a peasant from Voerth, was the one worn by Captain Sorrel when he was killed; it bears the marks of a bullet; it was given to M. Sorrel père by the sub-prefect of Wisselbourg in May 1872." -Six "drafts from the central paymaster of the public treasury" of 500, 100, 500, 500, 1000 and 200 francs dated 1863 to 1868. All crossed by a bullet. -Diary with service records and miscellaneous. -Sabre des chasseurs de Vincennes. Gilt bronze mounting. Oval cap with long tail decorated with features and laurel wreath. Joint arch pierced for the lanyard, from which two branches form the shell decorated with a laurel wreath on a background of four pennants and stars. Star-decorated scrolled quillon. Filigreed horn spindle. Straight snap-action blade by "Couleaux frères" in Klingenthal. Iron scabbard with two oxidation bracelets. Attached is a lanyard with small gold bangs (accidents). -Croix de guerre1914-1916 with recall bar and citation. -Glass globe (accident).
