French Imperial Navy (2nd Empire) - Handwritten logbook for - Lot 381
French Imperial Navy (2nd Empire) - Handwritten logbook for the vessel DONAWERTH (1854-1868), listing the names of the sailors in the various landing companies (fusiliers, gabiers, sappers, buglers, mountain howitzers) on removable paper strips. On the other side of the notebook is the signal book and the numbers of the other ships in the squadron. This notebook belonged to Vice-Admiral Jules Armand Cavelier de Cuverville, who held the rank of Enseigne de Vaisseau on the Donawerth and was assigned to the apprentice rifle battalion at LORIENT in 1860. Attached is a map of lighthouses on the coasts of France by France Andriveau Goujon, which probably also belonged to him.
