Charles-Eugène de LORRAINE, prince de LAMBESC (1751-1825) co - Lot 235
Charles-Eugène de LORRAINE, prince de LAMBESC (1751-1825) colonel of the Royal-German cavalry regiment, he charged the people in the Tuileries gardens in 1789; tried and acquitted, he emigrated with his regiment and fought against the armies of the Revolution and the Empire; Louis XVIII made him Peer of France under the title of Duc d'Elbeuf. L.A.S. "Le Pce Charles de Lorraine", Vienne June 26, 1814, [to M. MULLER, former secretary to the Grand Écuyer de France]; 3 1/2 pages in-4, one envelope enclosed with large wax seal of arms to the same. He refuses to allow Prince Charles de ROHAN to meddle in his affairs. His efforts to obtain compensation in Germany have been interrupted by the war. "My dear Sovereign, whom I have served for more than twenty years and whom I shall never leave, has ordered his minister to follow up this matter and has even spoken to the King of France about it. This will be dealt with at the Congress which is soon to begin. He worries about his possessions, the woods and lands of Elbeuf, Pont and Mortagne. He also looks after his affairs in Poland, "where people are even more processive than in Normandy"... Former André Saudemont collection (March 15-16, 1983, no. 418). 9785/993
