Claude CARRA SAINT-CYR (1760-1834) Major General. L.A.S. (signed at the top, minute), Vienne 28 thermidor VI (August 15, 1798), to Jean DE BRY, minister plenipotentiary of the French Republic in Rastadt; 3 1/2 pages in-4. Chargé d'affaires in Turkey after the death of his ambassador, General Aubert-Dubayet, Carra Saint-Cyr accompanies his widow (whom he marries in 1799) back to France. "The sweetest consolation that Cenne ve Aubert-Dubayet can experience since the disastrous loss of her husband, is undoubtedly to meet people who, like you, were sincerely attached to this friend of liberty"... Fearing that he would not be able to find lodgings in Rastadt, he asked him to keep an apartment there for 7 fructidor. "With the cenne Abert Dubayet, his daughter and I are bringing four people with us [...] we cannot deny ourselves the desire to stay two or three days with the Reprs de la Rep. in Rastadt. On our way back from Turkey, and passing through Germany, we need to refresh our souls with the faithful friends of the People, and purify ourselves at last with a view to seeing our fortunate homeland again"...
