Louis-Thomas VILLARET-JOYEUSE (1750-1812) admiral. L.A.S., L - Lot 210
Louis-Thomas VILLARET-JOYEUSE (1750-1812) admiral. L.A.S., Lorient 30 frimaire IV (21 decembre 1795), to his "dear comrade" Joseph-Marie Nielly; 1 1/2 pages in-4 (engraved portrait enclosed). On the end of the occupation of Île d'Yeu by English troops and the Comte d'Artois, with a view to a landing to rally the royalist troops of the Vendée, which never took place. He has received his reply concerning Captain Lefrancq's memoir, and warns him that Captain Pillet intends to publish a letter "that will unmask this impudent character" as soon as he arrives in Nantes. He has been told that the Île d'Yeu has been evacuated, and that the English have left only a few flatboats stranded there; "the Comted'Artois has left for London [...] with many émigrés whom the Army and the convoy will no doubt soon follow. [...] I hope that at the first fine weather we shall be rid of these ugly guests"... 9785/899
