Jean-Raymond FAYOLLE (1746-1821) Conventionnel (Drôme). L.A. - Lot 119
Jean-Raymond FAYOLLE (1746-1821) Conventionnel (Drôme). L.A.S., Paris June 9, 1793; 2 pages and a quarter in-fol. On the riot of May 31-June 2, Hanriot's siege of the Convention, the accusation and arrest of the Girondins. He fears for the fatherland...". The Convention no longer has any freedom, the tribunes and the constituted authorities of Paris are taking it away from us". On June 2, "around 80,000 men surrounded the chateau des Tuileries with cannon [...] I saw several soldiers at the windows of the chateau, who told me that their officers had instructed them to shoot anyone who stood at the windows". Hanriot called for the arrest of 22 deputies: "Among these 22, there is one who has great virtues combined with great talents, and against whom not even one fault can be articulated. So the denunciations made against them are based on nothing". He hopes that civil war will be avoided, as the people of Paris are tired of the horrors of anarchy, and desire order... "Those who do all the harm are a band of factious people who squander the public treasury, or receive money from the enemy, and who by their audacity spread terror"... ex 9785/663
