COMMUNE DE PARIS. P.A.S. by secrétaire-greffier SÉGUY, extra - Lot 117
COMMUNE DE PARIS. P.A.S. by secrétaire-greffier SÉGUY, extract from the minutes of the Conseil général de la Commune de Paris of May 20, 1793; 3 fol. pages headed Commune de Paris, small vignette. Important deliberation by the Commune on the events in the Vendée and the welcome given to the Republican army there: "the inhabitants of the countryside and small towns [...] come to meet them shouting vive la république and the public spirit is infinitely better than in the big cities. They say they have found proof of this in the city of Tours, but on the other hand, the administration of the Indre et Loire department is made up of excellent patriots. [...] The brigands who had evacuated Thouars have returned, but this has not prevented 60 dragoons of the 19th regiment from entering and removing the white flag that the rebels had substituted for the tree of liberty. [...] The enemy seems to be moving towards Niort, which leads us to assume that they will move towards Rochefort or La Rochelle". The Council discusses the interest that the Comité de Salut Public would have in having patriotic newspapers printed throughout France. Prosecutor CHAUMETTE explains that he will have a poster drawn up explaining "his cooonduct and state, before and after the revolution, in response to the malicious people who are trying to slander his intentions"... The aim is to create 5 or 6 municipalities in Paris, and to break up the current one. Next comes the distribution of rifles from the Arsenal: "caliber rifles to citizens destined to leave for the Vendée, and hunting and other rifles to citizens who will give their caliber rifles to volunteers enrolled for the Vendée. [...] in the future, no citizen will be able to buy a rifle without first having a certificate from the revolutionary committee of the Section"....On even assembles rifles under repair ... 9785/658
