On the admission of a child to his establishment: "Jealous of taking nothing on my conscience in the admission you propose of the unfortunate and a thousand times unfortunate Le Clerc, just as I took nothing in the admission of his comrades, I beg you to send me a copy of the statement that was made before your eyes and which I signed. I will then consult my pupils on his rights and those of his competitor, and their opinion will guide my choice"...
