Jean-Jacques FOCKEDEY (1758-1853) Conventionnel (Nord). P.S. - Lot 88
Jean-Jacques FOCKEDEY (1758-1853) Conventionnel (Nord). P.S. (3 times), co-signed by the administrators of the Bergues district, December 27 and 28, 1791; 6 pages in-fol. Interesting document on the troubles caused by the civil constitution of the clergy. The commune of Bergues having refused to obey the decree of the Conseil général du département du Nord concerning churches, Fockedey comes to Bergues to enforce the law. Fockedey, unafraid of the people's threats, decided to continue his mission; however, he had the national and line troops put under arms. The Municipality, "always occupied with the care of preserving order and peace and preventing the excesses of a dangerous fermentation that would cause bloodshed", proposes a conciliatory approach "which was to allow the opening of two churches other than the two parish churches that the people did not want to recognize, that this proposal was in conformity with the Constitution which allowed freedom of religious opinions"... Fockedey, without giving in, succeeded in having the decree executed, after which the commune could present its claim. ex 9785/521
