Jean-Baptiste SAURINE (1733-1813) clergy deputy to the Estat - Lot 87
Jean-Baptiste SAURINE (1733-1813) clergy deputy to the Estates-General, constitutional bishop, Conventionnel (Landes). L.A.S., Paris June 21, 1791; 2 1/2 pages in-4. On the flight from Varennes. After speaking of the National Guard of Dax, and its generous conduct which deserves "the gratitude of all those who sincerely love Religion, good order and the happiness of men", he eloquently extols "the sentiments of true fraternity". In a postscript, he declares: "Here we are, in a very great crisis, the King has set sail last night with his family. We're next. It's up to the guards and good citizens today to deploy all their energy to maintain order and keep an eye on our enemies. Courage, Messieurs, and prudence". ex 9785/507
