Alexandre-Jean de CREVECŒUR de BAUSSY, officer and literary - Lot 76
Alexandre-Jean de CREVECŒUR de BAUSSY, officer and literary scholar. L.A.S., Paris August 14, 1790, to a colleague; 4 pages small in-4. "The general state of the Kingdom is so critical that I dare not go into details [...] if we avoid bankruptcy and civil war, at least we will not avoid the anarchy, and since this beautiful federative pact, insurrection, violence and pillage have increased in all parts of the Kingdom, the colonies are no happier, and the latest news from St Domingue and Martinique in particular, are most disastrous". He is on the point of obtaining satisfaction and damages in his case, and is preparing a petition to the National Assembly, hoping to be "reintegrated into my military consideration". He adds: "Messrs Barnave and Cazales deputies fought hyer with pistols, the latter was wounded but not fatally".
