CLEMENT IV. Bull of Pope Clement "Clemens" IV promulgated fr - Lot 11
CLEMENT IV. Bull of Pope Clement "Clemens" IV promulgated from Saint John Lateran and dated January 4, 1268. Latin manuscript on vellum. Approx. 16.8 x 16.5 cm. Lead bull missing. EXTREMELY RARE PAPAL BULL FROM CLEMENT IV, PRONOUNCING EXCOMMUNICATIONS. The Pope approves the sentence handed down against the malefactors of the church of Saint-Quentin [in the Aisne?] and orders the canons of the said church to promulgate this sentence of excommunication. The fourth year of his pontificate was also his last. Clement IV, born Gui Foulques or Foucault in Saint-Gilles, Camargue, at the end of the 12th century, died in November 1268 in Italy. He was the 183 rd Pope of the Catholic Church. His pontificate was short: February 5, 1265 to November 29, 1268, which is one of the reasons why this document is so rare. BEAUTIFUL DOCUMENT.
