JANSSON, J. Tartaria sive Magni Chami Imperium. Amsterdam, 1653-66. Fine contemporary col. Small crack in margin at top of centerfold. A fine copy. Spanish text on verso. 385 x 500 mm Detailed and decorative map of Tartary and northern China, including the northern tip of Korea. The Great Wall of China is depicted, along with Central Asia, stretching from Mongolia and Xanadu, to the Caspian and Volga rivers, Tibet and the Upper Ganges. The deserts include devils and dragons kept away from China by the Great Wall. The title is inscribed on a banner carried by a camel driven by natives. Decorative scale cartouche at lower left.
