Émile ZOLA (1840-1902). Les Quatre Évangiles. Fécondité (Paris, Librairie Charpentier et Fasquelle, 1899); 2 volumes in-8, paperback. First edition, one of 250 copies on Hollande paper (no. 134). Attached is a L.A.S., Paris December 22, 1868, to a colleague (1 page in-8, small cracks at fold). He presented himself to the Presse libre to find out "if your editorial staff was so complete that you could not take me on as one of your collaborators, La Tribune, where I write a talk every week, is not enough to keep me busy; and I thought of the Presse libre, which gives one of its pages to literary writers The political line of the Tribune and the Presse libre being more or less the same, I could easily write in both papers"...
