Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Ermenonville, France, circa 1830-1840 Rare panoramic hand-screen with mechanical roll-out based on Carmontelle's transparencies. The screen is made of cardboard, paper, engraving and gouache highlights. The back is covered with pink paper, edged in green, and hollowed out at the panorama point, where a gauze allows light to pass through to illuminate the face. Two side-mounted wheels allow you to scroll through the views as if in a small theater, or a projection in the spirit of pre-cinema. The views are numbered, and the first view presents the table of contents, followed by : 1. Village entrance 2. The castle (north side) 3. Park (north side) 4. Gabrielle Tower 5. The Guard's House 6. The Grove 7. Desert Pond 8. J.J. Rousseau's house 9. Jean-Jacques Rousseau's tomb. Turned wooden handle. H. 35 cm L. 21.7 cm (wear, in working order)
