"The coronation of Charles X", France, circa 1825-1830 - Lot 162
"The coronation of Charles X", France, circa 1825-1830 Rare hand-held screen with mechanical unwinding based on Carmontelle's transparencies, called a "panorama screen" after the Gaucheret brothers' patent filed in Paris in 1820. Rare screen made of cardboard, paper, engraving and gouache highlights. Two wheels allow you to scroll through the views as if in a small theater, or a projection in the spirit of pre-cinema. The back is covered with blue paper, edged with green, and hollowed out at the panorama point where a gauze allows light to pass through to illuminate the face. The views are numbered, and the first view features the summary "Le sacre de Charles X dans l'Église cathédrale de Reims le 29 mai 1825" followed by four tableauxpreceded by their detailed descriptions: -The oath -The enthronement -The coronation -The anointing Turned wooden handle. H. 36.5 cm L. 22 cm (very good condition, slight wear, in working order)
