Theater plays, France, circa 1820-1821 Rare panoramic hand-screen with mechanical unwinding based on Carmontelle's transparencies, called "écran-panorama" according to the Gaucheret brothers' patent registered in Paris in 1820. Cardboard screen covered in white paper with stamped and gilded decoration. Two wheels allow the views to scroll as in a small theater, or a projection in the spirit of pre-cinema. The frame is that of a theater, with its orchestra and balconies. The back is covered in pink paper with green edging, and hollowed out at the panorama point where a gauze allows light to pass through to illuminate the face. Illustrated in six paintings: -" Le mariage enfantin", a comedy first performed in Paris in 1821. -" Les comédiens d'Étampes", a comedy first performed in June 1821. -" Préville et Taconet", a comedy first performed in Paris in January 1817. -" Le soldat laboureur", comedy first performed in Paris in 1821. -" Les bonnes d'enfans (sic)", comedy first performed in Paris in 1820. - Le gastronome sans argent", comedy first performed in Paris in 1821. The ends have the word "Fin" on each side. Turned wooden handle. Height 38 cm- Width 20 cm (wear, in working order)
