"Amphitrion" and "L'Avare", France, circa 1780 Pair of two cardboard hand screens, painted in gouache with trophies and adorned in the center with an oval engraving. -One depicts "Amphitrion" or Amphitryon, a comedy by Molière. The reverse with a map of the "Kingdom of Denmark" by Sieur Robert. Height 43.5 cm (wear, stains, restorations) -The other illustrates "L'Avare", a comedy by Molière. The reverse bears a map of the "Suburbs and Surroundings of Paris" by Sieur Robert. Height 43.3 cm (wear, stains, restorations) Turned wooden handles.
