Choix et usages des plaisirs, France, circa 1750-XIXth century
Cardboard hand screen, engraved with a fancy map featuring small mountains alternating with groves of trees and groups of characters. Titles of plays such as "Cinna", "Le Misanthrope" or "Tartuffe" are associated with the "Cap de la Vertu" or the "Baye des Écueils", while a large edifice dominating the map unites French theater and opera. The composition bears the title: "Choices and Uses of Pleasures".
Mute reverse (montagetardif).
Published "A Paris chez Longchamps et Janvier rue St Jacques A l'enseigne de la Place des Victoires. Avec Privilège du Roy". Longchamps and Janvier were two geographers and map publishers who joined forces in 1751.
