Bronze seal and counter-seal with round matrix featuring a m - Lot 135
Bronze seal and counter-seal with round matrix featuring a mount surmounted by a blossoming plant, inscription ☩ S . AUDRICI . D . MOTELEONE in orle. Counter-seal featuring a passing lion. Hexagonal socket pierced by a quatrefoil. 14th century Height: 2.5 cm - Diameter: 2.5 cm The curious heraldic furnishing of this seal seems to correspond to an emblem used by the Gascon de Montléon family, as evidenced by another matrix (Eve sale, Paris, June 25, 2018, lot 167). This hypothesis is confirmed by the orle inscription and the lion passant on our counter-seal, which corresponds to the family's arms, de gueules à un lion passant d'argent. It is therefore probably the seal of a certain Audric (or Aldéric) de Montléon.
