CHINA - 18th century Ivory group, Tara seated in padmasana on a double lotiform base, right hand in varada mudra (gesture of calling for donation), left in vitarka mudra (gesture of teaching), surrounded by flying scarves, richly adorned with jewelry, head girded with a five-peaked crown. (accidents, natural cracks) H. 14.8 cm Weight: 262 gr Provenance: Collection of Doctor Maurice Fournials. Appointed in 1923 to the French Occupation Corps in China, he later became the guard physician at the French Legation in Peking, then assistant physician to the President of the Chinese Republic.
