Kashkûl alms bowl, Iran qâjâr, early 20th century
Carved coco de mer bowl with champlevé and engraved decoration. On the top, floral decoration, on the sides, epigraphic cartouches in Persian nasta'liq, the one at one end with animal decoration in a landscape, below, large poly-lobed mandorla on a floral background and decorated with two dervishes facing each other, both wearing bonnets, one with the tabarzin axe, the second with a sebile. With pouring spout and hanging chain from which hangs a steel bell inlaid with silver floral stems.
Length: 33 cm
Slight wear, rust inside the bell, slight dents.
