Beautiful Qur'an from Nigeria Ink and pigments on paper, brown leather binding Northern Nigeria, 19th century 24 x 22 cm Composed of a text written in Barnavi calligraphy, it is adorned with numerous decorative polychrome cartouches with geometric decoration, separating the different sections. Polychrome geometric medallions dot the margins. Verses are separated by three-lobed rosettes in yellow. A similarly decorated Koran from the same period is in the Metropolitan Museum (inv. n°2019.176).
