Amusing Persian ceramic Kashkul Siliceous paste with polychrome decoration under transparent colorless glaze Iran, 20th century 13 x 25 cm This ceramic dervish's begging bowl or kashkul was part of the dervish's paraphernalia, and was used to receive alms. They are most often found carved in half lodoicea, known as "coco-fesses". Ceramic examples are rarer. They are decorated with flowers and calligraphic cartouches.
