GOMILA Gumersind (1905-1970) - SAINT-VICENS - Lot 115
GOMILA Gumersind (1905-1970) - SAINT-VICENS Large glazed ceramic piriform vase, decorated with colored insects in tall grasses on a shaded white background Engraved signature under the base H. 45 cm Gumersind Gomila, self-taught poet and ceramist from the Balearic Islands. In the 1940s, he joined the Atelier Sant-Vicens run by the Bauby brothers to work on ceramics. His exceptional mastery of reds and the finesse of his line aroused the interest of Jean Lurçat (1892-1966), of whom he became the exclusive ceramist around 1959. Lurçat demanded that Gomila's signature appear on their major joint productions.
