GAUGUIN (Paul). Le Sourire. Complete facsimile collection. Introduction and notes by L.-J. Bouge. Paris, Maisonneuve et Cie, Max Besson, 1952. In-folio, leaves, filled cover (publisher's binding). Complete reproduction of Le Sourire, a diary written, illustrated and autographed by Paul Gauguin in Tahiti in 1899-1900, of which only around 30 copies were printed. This facsimile edition includes the 9 issues and 3 supplements that make up the journal, to which 5 woodcut plates have been added. Edition of 1000 copies. The printed cover exactly reproduces the one composed by Gauguin for the copy he sent to Daniel de Monfreid, in blue cloth with large designs and yellow flowers, decorated with a woodcut.
