GERMAN SCHOOL Second half of the 16th century Attributed to Tobias Stimmer (Schaffausen1539 - Strasbourg1584) Three sheets of studies of decorative motifs (dolphins and mascarons, vase, fleurs de Lys and figures) Pen, black ink and gray wash. Glued to sheet. Framed with pen (minor foxing). Collection mark P. J. Mariette (1694 - 1774) lower right (Lugt. 2097) By way of comparison, our three ornamental drawings of pediments on top of Tobias Stimmer's figure or history drawings, such as Christ and the Samaritan Woman in the Dresden Museum, or the coat of arms of the Swiss town of Schweitz in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, can be compared.
