CROS (Charles). General solution to the problem of color pho - Lot 275
CROS (Charles). General solution to the problem of color photography. Paris, Gauthier-Villars, 1869. Booklet in-8, paperback, red half-chagrin folder and slipcase (Devauchelle). First edition of the author's first book and pioneering text on the invention of color photography. The booklet reproduces the essence of a paper presented to the Académie des Sciences two years earlier (1867) and an article published in Les Mondes. However, Cros added an essential innovation: chromatic synthesis. From then on, color photography was, at least theoretically, a reality (cf. En français dans le texte, n°292). As is often the case, the selling price of 1 franc on the cover has been scratched off, the edition having remained on sale with Gauthier-Villars for almost a hundred years. Slight spotting on cover.
