Atlas complete with 40 numbered engravings printed on 22 folding plates, some of them printed in color and enhanced with brushstrokes, and 9 leaves printed on various colored papers.
Presented alone, it accompanies the volume of the first edition of La loi du contraste simultané des couleurs, the remarkable founding text of color theory by chemist Eugène Chevreul (1786-1889) (cf. En français dans le texte, no. 237).
Some plates bear Chevreul's signature.
Some light foxing. Folding part of one plate detached (preserved), with tear on the other half.
