A self-published work celebrating the invention of telegraphy by Claude Chappe (1763-1805) in 1791.
From the time of Claude Chappe and his brothers onwards, dispatches would travel at the speed of lever manipulation: from one day to one hour. The lines spread throughout France at first, then with victories and conquests to Germany, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands; Russia was equipped between St. Petersburg and Kronstadt in 1834, and the United States between New York and New Orleans in 1837 (En français dans le texte, n°238).
