First edition of this pamphlet, an offprint from the Mémoires de la Société d'émulation d'Abbeville, a society presided over by the author who is considered the father of Prehistory.
The author denounces the main sources of misery (ignorance or false knowledge, lack of willpower or laziness, lack of order and misconduct, drunkenness, etc.) and proposes various means to be implemented against it: education, work, industry, legitimate gain or wages, prohibition of almsgiving at doors or in the street, etc.
