Grégoire reports to the Comité d'Instruction Publique on the census of books belonging to the Nation from castles, and on the abolition of ecclesiastical, judicial and academic guilds. In libraries, a host of books have been sold at low prices, by weight, while elsewhere they have been squandered. Select libraries and museums are, in a way, the workshops of the human mind (Monglond, III, 163).
We enclose another edition of the same date, printed by Quiber-Pallissaux, a 15-page, in-8 booklet in paperback - n°203 of the Gazette nationale, or Moniteur universel, dated April 12, 1794, in sheets, which reproduces the text of the report.
