First edition, decorated with an attractive copper-engraved figure by Martini and 2 folding maps: [...] a breviary of nineteenth-century philosophical and political thought, opening with a thrilling invocation of physical ruins, the shattered remains of millennia of greatness, and continuing with the famous twilight evocation of Palmyra (En français dans le texte, n°188).
Some foxing, notably on the title. Hinges, headpieces and corners restored.
