SICARD (Roch-Ambroise Cucurron, dit l'abbé).... - Lot 87 - Rossini
First edition, illustrated with a fold-out plate showing the sign alphabet. This important treatise marks the culmination of the work of Abbé de L'Épée, whose disciple and successor at the Institut des sourds-muets de Paris was Sicard (1742-1822). The second volume ends with a Notice sur l'enfance de Massieu, a deaf-mute by birth and Sicard's pupil. Copy as issued, stapled and untrimmed. Ink stain on verso of faux-title and at top of title of volume II, the top edge of the latter being cut away (without affecting the text). Paper missing from spine.
